"Reinvention & Responsibility"

Torsten Roeder and Fernanda Alvares Freire

Here we go again: the Rostock Junior Professorship for Digital Humanities set off for the annual Digital Humanities Conference. This year’s event took place from August 6th to 9th in Washington, D.C. Hosted by George Mason University alongside the ADHO, the conference welcomed again attendees from all around the world.

The motto "Reinvention & Responsibility" made it clear right from the outset that the aim wasn’t just to rethink digital humanities, but also to recognize and critically reflect on how they are embedded in an ever-evolving technological landscape.

Representing the University of Rostock, Dr. Torsten Roeder and Fernanda Alvares Freire attended the conference in person, with Alvares Freire’s participation funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Joining remotely from Germany, Marc Lemke and Nils Kellner also contributed with an online presentation. During a virtual Q&A session on Wednesday morning titled "Annotating Spatiality in Literary Texts: The Category Set CANSpiN.CS1", they introduced version 1.0.0 of the annotation guidelines developed as part of the DFG project CANSpiN.
