Teaching tasks of the Chair of Animal Breeding and Genetics

The professorship teaches courses in the Bachelor's degree program in Agricultural Sciences and in the Master's degree program in Sustainable Agricultural Systems.

Students are taught basic knowledge of biometrics as well as population and molecular genetics. The mechanisms of inheritance and expression of important breeding traits, methods of performance testing and breeding value estimation as well as approaches to the use of genomic information are taught. In particular, strategies for the identification of genes and molecular pathways for traits of resource efficiency, resilience, animal welfare and animal health using holistic high-throughput methods are presented in a research-oriented manner.
