Welcome

on the webpage of the professorship Molecular Biology and Fish Genetics. Head of the professorship, which was established in November 2019, is Prof. Dr. Tom Goldammer.

The chair is associated with the leading of the Fish Genetics Unit at the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) in Dummerstorf.

Our research focuses on elucidating and understanding fundamental biological, molecular, genetic and immunological mechanisms in fish. We are interested in the structure of genomes, the inheritance of traits, the signal transfer in fish cells and the adaptive potential of fish. All research approaches focus on the health and well-being of the fish. Our systems biology and physiological metadata analyses provide contributions to smart aquaculture, such as monitoring with molecular bioindicators or marker-assisted breeding models. The research contributes to ensure sustainable good harvesting results of best quality in fish aquaculture.

In teaching, we participate in the Masters Program in Aquaculture and are responsible for the organization of the module 'Genome Biology and Pathology' that includes lectures, a seminar, and a week long practical course.
