The Nobel Prize in physics was arwarded for the Generation of ultrashort light pulses this year.
These pulses are so short (0.000000000000000001 seconds = 1 attosecond) that a 'photo' of the motion of electrons in matter can be taken.
The field of attosecond physics plays an important role here at the Institute of Physics and its Collaborative Research Center 1477 - LiMatI
Professor Eleftherios Goulielmakis worked in the group of the recent Nobel Prize laureate Ferenc Krausz before he was appointed here in Rostock and himself conducted pioneering experiments in the field of attosecond physics.
The Institute of Phyics invites everybody who is interested to the Colloquium of Physics on the 09. Nov. 23. Professor Goulielmakis will speak about "Taming light waves: The physics oft the Nobel prize 2023 and other stories …" (in English).
